Synopsis
In the imposing and religious scenography of the cloisters of the Cartuxa Convent in Caxias, which are hosting an opera for the first time, one of the greatest operas of all time by the extraordinary Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi is presented. La Traviata, or the misguided one, based on the novel “The Lady of the Camellias” by Alexandre Dumas, tells us about the forbidden love of the courtesan Violetta for Alfredo, which she ends up expiating with her own death. The stigma of the lost woman, socially condemned. The tragedy of a love that social constraints and illness cause to fall apart, with the most sublime music. Never before had Verdi entered such an intimate sphere of the characters. A luxurious cast and the staging of actor and director David Pereira Bastos, who after his acclaimed staging of Puccini's “Suor Angelica” at Operafest 2023, embraces this great opera by Verdi, under the baton of maestro Osvaldo Ferreira accompanied by the Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra.
